Announcing the Long-list for Heroines Anthology Volume 6 - Witchcraft
We are delighted to announce our poetry and short fiction long-lists for both Heroines Anthology Volume 6 and the Heroines Women’s Writing Prize.
When the submission portal closed, we were both thrilled and overwhelmed to have received over 450 entries. Works had come from all over the globe, and they were wonderful. That has made sorting through to a long-list a very challenging and indeed, bitter-sweet process. The more entries we receive, the more competitive the process becomes. There were many beautiful, highly publishable pieces that we simply could not accommodate on the list. One criterion that we had to become very strict about enforcing was on the theme: works had to be written directly on a topic of witchcraft, rather than about women in mythology more generally. We’ve returned to mythology for our next edition to try to accommodate that overflow; read more about Volume 7 submissions here.
Next up comes the challenging task of culling to our final publication short-list; stay tuned for that!
